Graphic shades offer more than the opportunity to
reinforce brand image. When designed strategically, they have the potential to
inspire a stronger community. When we partnered with our sister company, Tailored
Living, on NBC’s television show George to the Rescue to renovate the teen room of the Boys and Girls Club of
Newark, New Jersey, we demonstrated how powerful a simple window makeover can
be.
Mayor
Cory Booker, Lyani Powers, Jay Feingold, and, of course, George Oliphant, were among
the key players in the transformation of this room into a center of community building,
and it’s not difficult to see why each was compelled to participate in this work.
In Booker’s
words, “What George does––which to me, is really attached to the spirit––is
that he
transforms physical spaces in a way that ignites our spirit and our
imagination.”
His
explanation could not have been truer while working with this non-profit
organization. In addition
to redesigning the room into a vivacious and functional space, the team
installed our
graphic shades with moving quotes from Oprah, Ghandi, Shaq, and the mayor,
himself.
Now
the Boys and Girls Club members can explore, learn, and form friendly
relationships while
being reminded of their common values and personal aspirations. Member De’Quan Foster
compares the updated center to Disneyland when he says it’s like “being blasted with
inspiration.”
It’s
not just non-profit organizations that have the capacities to promote change
with their graphic
shades. Retail stores, restaurants, healthcare facilities, banks, community
centers, and more businesses can utilize window space to communicate brand
values––while providing a more comfortable and energy efficient environment.
The George to the Rescue team promoted the club’s emphasis on self-betterment
through community by printing inspirational quotes on graphic shades with their logo.

Adé Kelly says of the redesign, “On a scale of one to ten, he did a million. It
was just so great that he came in here and just changed an entire atmosphere,
you know. It’s different; you just feel the energy. There’s life in this room
now.”
